Job Description

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) seeks an Adjunct Academic Counselor. The Educational Opportunity Program utilizes high-impact counseling and advising practices to support retention, persistence, good academic standing, degree completion, and the transfer aspirations for EOP students. The responsibilities of the Adjunct EOP Academic Counselor will include the following:                                                                                                                                                              

• Deliver comprehensive academic advising and support services to EOP students through degree completion;
• Develop and maintain academic student profiles, individualized educational plans, learning agreements, contact reports, academic and tutorial progress reports;
• Act as lead staff in the provision of individual and group sessions to students on academic, financial, career, transfer, and personal issues;
• Provide timely and supportive interventions through Viking Success to monitor and intervene at-risk and on-track indicators;
• Conduct regular outreach to faculty and other college staff as needed to support student success;
• Provide appropriate referrals to academic and non-academic college services;
• Assist the Director in identifying, interviewing, and selecting the new student summer cohort;
• Assist with the development and execution of a comprehensive summer bridge program;
• Develop and maintain the coordination of academic services for EOP students, including conducting student workshops, preparing newsletters and brochures and accompanying students on field trips to other colleges and cultural events;
• Participate in assessment activities and presentations;
• Work in close conjunction with the EOP Director to meet program objectives and recruitment goals;
• Participate in staff and professional development meetings;

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess one of the following:

• A Master's and Bachelor's degree in Guidance Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or a closely related field and one year of professional experience;
• A Bachelor's degree in Guidance Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or a closely related field and three (3) years' experience;
• A Bachelor's degree in a non-specific field and 2 years of experience, along with a Master's degree in Guidance Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or a closely related field.

The successful candidate will have experience with delivering comprehensive case management advising and a clear understanding of high-impact advising practices and tools. Effective oral and written communication skills are required. Proficiency in software systems including Microsoft Office applications, as well as a detail-oriented approach to data entry and tracking are also required. The successful candidate will be able to relate well with students and colleagues, have strong project management and facilitation skills, and have the ability to work with a team of diverse faculty, staff and students.

All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of first-generation community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Familiarity with delivering comprehensive case management advising is preferred. Bilingual verbal and written fluency strongly preferred.

POSITION EFFECTIVE: The position will remain open until filled. 

WORK SCHEDULE:  The work schedule is 28 hours per week.

HOURLY RATE OF PAY: $45.32 per hour. No benefits. This is a grant funded position.
