Job Summary

The Department of Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Administrator / Senior Staff Associate. Reporting directly to the Chair of the Department of Medicine, the successful candidate will:

• Provide administrative leadership for the Department of Medicine at University Hospital at Downstate (UHD) and across all clinical locations.
  • Administrative leadership encompasses the clinical care and education and research activities of the department.
  • Clinical care includes working with hospital administration and the faculty practice to ensure safe and effective provision of care.
• Work with leadership of the COM, UHD, Research Foundation and GME to ensure that all educational research activities are compliant with SUNY policies and procedures.
• Oversee 11 clinical divisions, assisting division administrators with the day to day operations of these divisions to meet the goals of UHD, the COM and the faculty practice.
• Be responsible for analyzing, preparing and making recommendations regarding budgets, ongoing or new services or programs to Chair.
• Evaluate administrative staff and faculty programmatic needs for appropriate administrative and clinical support.
• Assess current and proposed department manpower, including defining positions, preparing job descriptions, developing core competency elements defining performance program, completing and reviewing evaluations.
• Assist Chair with faculty salary setting process and administration by providing methods, data and benchmarks to evaluate productivity.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• 7 to 10 years of active relevant management experience, including 5+ years in a healthcare environment.
• 5 to 7 years in program and strategic planning, including the development of clinical business plans.
• Prior experience as the administrator of an academic and clinical department.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree.

Monday to Friday; 9:00am to 5:00pm
