Job Summary

A Battery Systems Designer is needed for a world leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives in the Tucson, AZ area. This role involves researching, designing, troubleshooting, and developing battery systems and mechanical components, with hands-on support for prototype builds and data analysis to enhance product safety, quality, and performance.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test mechanical devices, including engines, tools, and machinery.
• Review and analyze customer design proposals and specifications for feasibility in terms of cost and time.
• Investigate and diagnose equipment failures to recommend solutions for maintenance teams.
• Support drafters in developing structural designs using CAD and other tools.
• Troubleshoot battery component and system issues in lab and field environments.
• Tear down, inspect, and report on battery components and systems, providing design improvement recommendations.
• Conduct onsite engineering support for prototype battery builds and testing.
• Analyze battery test data, identify trends, and make design recommendations.
  
  

Skills

• Proficiency with CAD tools and electrical schematics.
• Experience in product development, including design, validation, testing, and analysis.
• Ability to document issues and support root cause analysis.
  
  

Desired Skills

• Experience in battery system design or testing.
• Knowledge of off-road equipment design or testing.
  
  

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• With at least 5 years of experience, or
• A Master's/Ph.D. with 3 years of experience.
