Job Description

Camp Educator Internship
The Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association (NSEA) is seeking passionate and dedicated people who are excited to lead 3-6 year old youth in outdoor discovery, rooted in salmon education. Camp Educator Interns will be responsible for co-leading groups of up to 12 campers in outdoor programming including nature exploration, movement games, stories, arts and crafts, and songs related to a different ecological theme each week. Camp Educator Interns will gain teaching and youth leadership skills, along with professional skills to benefit professional career pursuits.

The dates of this position are June 17 – August 23, Monday – Friday. This includes a mandatory 1-week orientation at the beginning of the position term along with approximately 15 paid hours of mandatory paperwork to be completed asynchronously before June 17.

Weekly hours will vary and will feature a rotation of teaching 5-6 weeks of half-day camp (8:00am – 1:30pm) and 2-3 weeks of full-day camp (8:00am – 4:00pm).

Hours are based on enrollment. If select weeks have low enrollment, Interns are not guaranteed hours for those weeks.

Each intern will be granted up to 1 scheduled week off during the Internship period.

Facilitate Camp Keystone Programming Estimated 90% of time

  • Setup and prepare for camp daily
  • Lead campers in programming related to weekly themes
  • Teach lessons built into weekly lesson plans
  • Ensure safety of campers at all times
  • Practice responsible group management to ensure campers are engaged
  • Clean up after camp daily, including sanitizing equipment and bathrooms
  • Team teach with fellow Camp Educators
  • Communicate necessary information to Education Manager, Education Coordinator, and parents

Program Planning and Professional Development Estimated 10% of time

  • Develop engaging activities and curriculum to implement into weekly themes
  • Work collaboratively with fellow Camp Educators to plan for upcoming weeks
  • Attend professional development workshops to gain skills in a variety of topics
  • Assist with facility needs
  • Other duties as assigned

Special Benefits

Compensation:
This is a seasonal, part-time position, 27.5 - 37.5 hours per week depending on teaching half or full day camp and contingent upon camp registration.

Compensation includes a rate of pay of $16.28/hour.

Additional $1.00/hour will be paid to any interns who can fluently speak Spanish.

NSEA is partnering with Washington Campus Coalition (WACC) to offer a $1,459 Education Award for Camp Educator Interns who are enrolled in a WACC-member institution in Washington or Idaho. This program is optional for qualifying candidates and would require additional onboarding requirements and reporting throughout the internship term. The education award can be used for continued or previous education expenses (tuition, student loans, skills courses, etc.) and would be paid upon internship completion.

  • Able to monitor and ensure camper safety at all times
  • Dependable with strong passion for NSEA’s mission
  • Able to work independently and on a team
  • Willingness to work in both an outdoor setting, in all types of weather
  • Available Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm
  • Preference for candidates who can fluently speak Spanish
