JOB SUMMARY
The Environmental Specialist will provide technical support to the Tribe’s Environmental Protection Program, funded by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to ensure that reservation and Tribal lands are conserved and protected. Along with the Director, the Environmental Specialist will advise, develop, implement, and support environmental activities and projects. The incumbent will assist with environmental and water quality projects under the EPA General Assistant Program (GAP), Tribal Clean Air Grant (CAA), Tribal Clean Water Act Grant (CWA), Climate Change Grants, Exchange Network Grant (Database Development/Management) Grant, Non-Point Source, Solid Waste, BIA Forestry and Wildlife management, that will support the goals and objectives of the Department. This job description is not an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities of this position. The Environmental Specialist is expected to perform all duties and responsibilities necessary to meet the goals and objectives of applicable programs. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS· Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management (e.g., Biology, Botany, Forestry, watershed science, hydrology, conservation planning) discipline with · Three years field application experience. · Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Strong computer skills; such as in: Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and data management software – (WQX).
· Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
· Must be able and willing to work in inclement weather conditions.
· Must be willing and able to work in a multitude of water environments, wetlands, forested areas.
· Experience collecting and interpreting environmental field data.
· Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
· Must be able to drive trucks, canoes, and small battery powered boat.
· Proficiency with GPS equipment and GIS software (ArcGIS, ESRI’s Desktop).
· Possess knowledge of federal regulations such as, but not limited to: Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Endangered Species Act, Migratory Birds Act, and NEPA.
· Experience with grant writing, budgeting, management, and reporting.· Experience in environmental and natural resources sampling techniques and interpreting field data. · Experience in quality assurance and control (QA/QC) procedures.
