GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

The Student Success Coach is an ambassador for GCC's Pathway to Success program, serving as the primary point of contact for students and their families with the College, and is an expert in the delivery of enrollment services, both in person and via the phone/email.  The Student Success Coach represents the following functional areas of the College: Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, Advisement, and Bursar providing comprehensive information and guidance to students and families, as well as other enrollment services from other areas of the College. Under the direction of the Director of Pathway to Success, the Student Success Coach will participate in ongoing professional development, as well as direct support of cross-training opportunities for other specialists and enrollment services staff.  The Student Success Coach will provide advisement and training to students and families related to enrollment services. A flexible schedule is required; evening and weekend hours are to be expected.  Travel to the main campus, campus centers, and local high schools may be required.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide complete and direct advisement and assistance to students and their families seeking a wide-range of enrollment services at the College and the Campus Centers traditionally offered through Financial Aid, Admissions, Registrar, Bursar, and Center for Advisement, both in person and via phone/email; make referrals to other offices only when necessary.

Provide direct support to students by developing an individualized student success  plan and strategies to improve their success and aid in retention as part of the Guided Pathways process.  Assist with identifying potential problems and intervene when necessary to support student success.

Organize and actively participate in the delivery of Financial Aid, Admissions, and Registration/Orientation workshops and information sessions for groups of students and their families.

Work closely with the Director and Assistant Director of Pathway to Success to market Pathway to Success and recruit new rural students. 

Participate in events planned by the Director and Assistant Director to encourage recruitment and retention in students going to GCC and pursuing their careers (bootcamps, etc)

Participate in ongoing professional development activities sponsored by the Director of Pathway to Success and others to promote personal/professional growth and awareness of best practices in higher education.

Train students individually, or in groups, in utilizing web based services, such as GCC student email, WebAdvisor, and Blackboard.

Coordinate, train, and facilitate the use of technology for initiatives directed at streamlining communication with students who access Financial Aid, Admissions, Registrar, Advisement Business Office services.

Initiate contact and/or follow-up with students and families from local rural high schools to support recruitment and retention through the Pathway to Success framework.

Serve as a liaison to students working with Pathway to Success high school coaches as they transition from high school to GCC.

Maintain accurate student data, paperwork, and tracking per grant regulations.  Must comply with all necessary grant paperwork and regulations. 

Provide referrals as necessary to other internal and external services for student success, including but not limited to working closely with external resources such as Genesee County Economic Development Center to provide career choices as part of the student guided pathway.

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Pathway to Success.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Associate's degree required.  Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience

A minimum of three years' experience working with students required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Minimum of three years of experience working with students in a K-12 or higher education setting; excellent written, oral, communication, and presentation skills; document/demonstrated customer service orientation; experience with student information systems (e.g. Banner) is preferred but not necessary; high level proficiency using Microsoft Office products; strong organizational skills; ability to maintain flexible work schedule to accommodate service demands at the local area high schools and Genesee Community College, including some evenings and weekends; ability to work independently to prioritize tasks and problem-solve; ability to function at a high-level in a fast-paced environment. Ability to provide training and advisement in individual and group settings in a team-oriented environment. Must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity.  Is mindful of and develops accessibility solutions that can accommodate all individuals to use GCC facilities without barriers, both digitally and physically.





Additional Information:

SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full time, year-round grant funded position in year 3 of 3 with anticipation of extension.  Position is 35 hours per week and is compensated at a rate of $42,591.23.  Salary, benefits and conditions of employment are as set by the GEA contract.  Evening and weekend hours may be required.
