Job Description

This opportunity to join the Department of Pediatrics at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at the rank of Lecturer in Genetic Counseling is an exciting one. Columbia University Irving Medical Center, one of the nation's foremost academic health science centers working together with one of the nation's premier health systems, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Lecturer in Genetic Counseling will

  • Prepare for patient appointments, including medical record review
  • Assist with clinical consultations, draft consultation notes and write patient result letters
  • Complete lab requisition forms. Coordinate patient and/or family genetic testing. Coordinate specimen send outs and results notifications
  • Attend weekly case conference meetings
  • Participate in specialty clinics, as required
  • Enter patient information into division database
  • Supervise medical students, rotating residents and genetic counseling students
  • Assist with orientation of Genetics fellows

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a Master's degree in Genetic Counseling
  • Must be Board certification in Genetic Counseling or be Board-eligible
  • Consistently strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with professionals in other disciplines;
  • The ability to create a high-energy results-oriented work environment that encourages colleagues and staff to value each other's contributions
  • The ability to share and celebrate success with colleagues and staff
