POSITION SUMMARY: The Mental Health Assistant for Behavioral Health Services is responsible for screening, prompt referral implementation, input of assessments and support of Behavioral Health Services at the Southern Jersey Family Medical Centers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Listen and provide emotional support and encouragement to potential Behavior health patients

  • Ensure that patients understand screening tools

  • Administer brief screening tools and interpret scores

  • Assist with survey administration if needed

  • Function as a part of a multidisciplinary team utilizing assessment tools and surveys for patients ages 12 and over

  • Communicate effectively and interact will all levels of staff, primary care providers, patients and community workers

  • Interact with patients in a courteous and culturally appropriate manner

  • Ensure the proper safeguarding of confidential program and patient information, and comply with all Federal and State guidelines

  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet program or organizational objectives

     

Experience and Skills:

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of behavioral health and/or substance abuse practices and principles
  • Understanding of the cultural, socio-economic and language factors that affect service delivery

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work a full-time schedule, including evenings and weekends

  • Ability to work under stress and establish working relationships with others

  • Ability to apply a reasonable degree of physical exertion to control client behavior in emergency situations

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Associates degree /Bachelor’s degree preferred in the field of Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, etc.

  • 1-2 years of face-to-face Mental/Behavioral health/Substance abuse experience
