JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the daily planning, classroom management, and supervision of the classroom and children. Generally, is assisted in the classroom by an assistant teacher. Is responsible for ensuring that all parents, children, and classroom staff concerns are appropriately addressed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensures that the appearance, cleanliness and safe environment of the classroom are appropriately maintained, in accordance with the NAEYC cleaning and sanitizing guidelines.
- Completes all academy and classroom documentation: for example, daily notes to parents, student accident/injury reports, manages behavior/biting prevention, attendance reports.
- Attends and actively participates in staff meetings, academy events, graduation and parent meetings, as requested.
- Assists and supervises children during all activities
- Ensures name-to-face is in compliance with transition policy.
- Counsel children when social, academic, or adjustment problems arise by providing a prevention plan, or plan to improve.
- Prepares and implements classroom lesson plans, daily schedule, and plans for large/small group classroom activities.
- Develops, plans, delegates and prepares instructional aids / materials for classroom activities.
- Assists children with meal times and clean-up. Ensures that each child’s dietary restrictions are followed by all staff presents at all times.
- Ensures that all classroom and outdoor equipment are in good working condition and are used and maintained properly. Reports any equipment discrepancies.
- Physically arranges the classroom into well-defined interest areas, rotates toys, replenishes supplies, and materials through requests as needed.
- Directs activities of other staff in the classroom to ensure that the classroom functions in an orderly manner. Is comfortable with delegating appropriately.
- Communicates appropriate information to parents; maintains developmental profiles for children in preparation for parent teacher conferences.
- Schedules and conducts parent and teacher conferences throughout the year.
- Maintains family information board and other classroom bulletin boards; family tree, birthday board, character education board, and evidence of learning displays.
- Ensures that classroom medication schedules are followed, and rescue medication is current and reachable.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accepts temporary work assignments in the event regularly scheduled personnel is not available: for example, may answer telephones at the front desk, or may assist supervisor with doing headcounts, or cover for a teacher who calls out, temporarily leaves, or goes on vacation.
- Assists with planning and implementing academy-wide events; such as graduation, open houses, fall festivals etc.
- Meets with prospective families; communicates appropriately with potential new customers.
- Assists in evaluating personnel within the classroom.
- Take assignments to supervise on field trips, graduation, or other Kiddie Academy events.
- Performs other similar or related duties as necessary to meet staffing needs.
- All employees are required to receive 24 hours of training each calendar year per state requirements.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Must meet state requirements for the position.
- Must possess a CDA or higher and/or degree in early education and/or 2+ years of experience
- Candidates must have a clear background check to qualify for employment, and understand that random drug tests may be required.
- Must be able to lift no less than 40 pounds on a consistent basis throughout the workday to at least waist high.
